Building Trauma Awareness for Teachers
“Our online trauma-informed training is time-efficient and effective. It provides essential information for teachers who may be working with students who have experienced trauma or significant stress.”
Trauma-informed practice is a strengths-based framework in which education systems, schools and school staff understand, recognise and respond effectively to the impact of trauma on student.
This 3 hour interactive face to face or via a zoom workshop explores the essentials of trauma informed practice including an awareness of trauma followed by putting this into direct practice experience and examples, encouraging teachers to work through case scenarios in a step by step reflection using what they have learnt from the earlier parts of the session.
Teachers will learn how to recognise when a student’s behaviour might be the result of trauma or stress, so they can identify students who may need extra support.
The training course will cover:
- The common occurrence of trauma among students
- Traumatic events and adverse childhood experiences
- Understanding trauma responses
- Potential outcomes of trauma exposure to child development
- Stress response to trauma
- The brain and trauma exposure
- Key principles of trauma-informed teaching
